What is a Dietitian?

As a registered specialist diabetes dietitian, I am able to offer expert advice regarding the nutritional management of your diabetes. I also advocate for prevention and can assist individuals to reduce their chances of developing diabetes in the future through tailored advice. The goal is to reduce the risk of complications from diabetes (or raised blood glucose) in the long-term and promote overall better health and wellbeing. Specialist advice takes into account any medication you are taking, your blood results and biochemistry as well as any other conditions and considerations. As part of my role as a dietitian, I keep up-to-date with new evidence and approaches to the management of blood glucose including the use of low carb and low calorie diets. Please enquire to book an appointment.
Registered dietitians advise people with medical problems about their nutrition. The term ‘dietitian’ is protected by law and only those with a recognised degree or postgraduate diploma in dietetics can use the title. Registered dietitians are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. Dietitians work across a range of areas in the NHS and privately including hospitals, community clinics and public health. They cover a range of medical conditions in adults and children. Dietitians also work in a freelance capacity and can support the work of different organisations and charities. Please see the British Dietetic Association website for more information.
